Chelsea legend has revealed the real reason why the club sold Kevin De Bruyne in 2014

Kevin De Bruyne delivered a man of the match performance against his former club Chelsea on Saturday, as Manchester City defeated the west London team 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

The Beligum international left Chelsea in 2014 to join Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg, when Jose Mourinho was in charge of the Blues.

He scored the only goal of the match on Saturday, which was his first of the season.

However, Chelsea supporters to this day still want to know just why a player like him was let to leave.

But there’s someone who supports the club’s decision to sell him, and that is Frank Lampard.

“It was a difficult time for the club, you had (Eden) Hazard, Oscar, and Willian had just signed. He wasn’t as good as he is now,” Lampard told BT Sport, per the Metro.

“Of course, it’s easy to look and say ‘why did you let him go?’, but he’s gone away and made himself a world-class player.”
