Chelsea news: Marcos Alonso WILL face ban for horror Southampton challenge - Alan Shearer

MARCOS ALONSO will face retrospective action for his awful stamp on Shane Long during Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Southampton.

Marcos Alonso is at risk of a ban which would rule him out of the FA Cup semi-finals
The relegation-threatened Saints were far the better side for the opening hour, with goals from Dusan Tadic and Jan Bednarek putting them on course for a massive Premier League win in their battle to survive the drop.
Yet Antonio Conte’s side launched a late recovery thanks to an inspired cameo from January signing Olivier Giroud off the bench. The Frenchman came on to score a brace either side of an Eden Hazard strike as Chelsea scored three in eight minutes to turn the game in their favour.
But Southampton boss Mark Hughes was left incensed by referee Mike Dean’s decision not to send Blues left-back Alonso off in the first half after he raked his studs down Shane Long’s calf.
The Spaniard then went on to provide the assist for Giroud’s first goal.

They’ll ask the referee did he see it and he has to say no he didn’t. Because if he did, he has to send him off. That’s a terrible tackle.

But he could will not be available to face Southampton when the two teams meet again in next weekend’s FA Cup semi-finals.
At least according to former Newcastle and Blackburn front-man Shearer, who believes the fact match official Dean did not even award a foul means the incident will be reviewed by the FA.
“I don’t know how the referee hasn’t seen it because he’s only actually five yards away,” Shearer said of Alonso’s foul.
“There will be retrospective action. They’ll ask the referee did he see it and he has to say no he didn’t.
“Because if he did, he has to send him off. That’s a terrible tackle. It should have been a red card.
“I’m pretty sure there will be retrospective action. Mike Dean should have seen that.”

Chelsea were well below-par before their late comeback and Shearer accused the Blues of lacking both effort and enthusiasm for the first 60 minutes.
“For an hour it looked as though only one team wanted to win the game,” the Premier League’s all-time top scorer added on Match of the Day.
“Chelsea were lazy and that’s being polite. They were second to every ball, didn’t want to close down and didn’t want to work hard.
“Once they brought Giroud on, it totally changed.”
Both clubs are in action again before their semi-final cup clash at Wembley, Chelsea hosting Burnley and Southampton taking on Leicester City (both Thursday night, 7.45pm).
