Carles Puyol has revealed what he did when Pep Guardiola told him not to kick Leo Messi in training

During Pep Guardiola’s time, Barcelona were undoubtedly the best football team in the world.
From 2008 to 2012, the Catalans totally dominated the football world, winning everything possible.
Guided by Lionel Messi, the Blaugrana enjoyed their best years in the club’s history winning trophy after trophy.
However, now it has been revealed that Messi never received special treatment from his teammates on the training field.
And Barcelona legend, Carles Puyol recently in an interview with Mundo Deportivo revealed some interesting details about sharing the same pitch with the five time Ballon d’Or winner.
He has confessed a brilliant story of how he reacted when Guardiola told him not to kick his star man during training.
When asked if he treated Messi differently in training, Puyol said: “He, when he is in the field, is very competitive, he wants to win and he uses all the resources he has, which are not few, and he sure has made me pipes.
“I remember at the beginning of the stage with Pep Guardiola in which we did some short matches. In one of them I decided to make an individual mark and the truth is that I was plunged into misery.
“Even Pep Guardiola told me: ‘Do not give him any kick.’ And I told him that if he wanted me not to kick him, I’d stop the training. I tried everything and could not do anything.
“You had to be careful not to make a hard entrance, of course, but he has too many resources. We go in slow motion and he goes very fast.”
